Electrocomponents has increased its product range by 9,000 products over six months taking the total to 72,000. The company's UK sales were up by 12% at 224 million pounds sterling for the six months to Sep 30 1996 and the UK accounts for 90% of profits. Electrocomponents is investing 30 million pounds in operations in Italy, Germany and France and is considering a US acquisition. The company's profit for the full year is forecast at 110 million pounds rising to 125 million pounds for 1998.

Electrocomponents is investing 42 million pounds sterling in a warehouse which is scheduled for completion in 1997. Start-up costs in the Far East and Europe have affected margins but this should improve as the operations are under way. The company's profit is forecast at 114 million pounds sterling by Merrill Lynch.
