Electronic bill of lading cuts discrepancies that slow trade payments
Article Abstract:
Electronic bill of lading programs developed by banks network companies such as export manufacturers, freight forwarders and shippers in order to facilitate international trade-related documentary collections. This is seen as the first step toward a totally electronic data exchange among companies involved in international trade, which should speed up payment, improve cash flow, reduce the time required to perform international transactions and make verification of letters of credit easier. Use of the Accelerated Trade Payment program by First Chicago's internationally trading companies can save exporters around $1,500 in interest revenues for every $1 million in shipped goods.
