The author discusses practical and ethical issues concerning whistle-blowing in the financial services industry, but the discussion would apply to other industries and private situations. Conditions which should be met for whistle-blowing to be an ethical and successful alternative include proper motivation, evidence, analysis, and channels.

Some financial service companies do not let their agents recommend other companies? products, even if the agent feels that this would be best for the client . Agents who find themselves working for such companies because of mergers or acquisitions often feel caught in an ethical quandary. If companies adopt an attitude that they exist to serve clients, this should help resolve the issue for agents.
