The 25-nation European Union is embarking on an ambitious program to streamline its defense procurement and improve the competitiveness of the European defense industry. European Commission stated that the discussion focused on the way to shape a future European defense industry policy, including the development of a 'European defense equipment market (EDEM).

Defense globalization: Boon or bane?
Article Abstract:
The pros and cons of globalization and its influence on the U.S. defense industries are discussed. Some believe that the Defense Department needs to take advantage of the globalized economy to procure the highest quality equipment at the most competitive rate and others want the Pentagon to limit its shopping and funding to home markets.
