Europe on the right lines
Article Abstract:
British online brokers are lagging behind some of those in mainland Europe, in terms of costs and access to markets. This is partly due to slower uptake in Britain of online services and lower internet penetration in Britain compared with some European counties such as Sweden. The regulatory environment has also hampered the development of online broking in Britain, where the regulator does not appear to have kept abreast of trends. British investors who are prepared to deal in languages other than English have more opportunities.

From retail to e-tail
Article Abstract:
A number of companies have launched online trading services, following pioneers such as Charles Schwab. Online dealing is highly developed in the US and is also developing in Germany, while the start has been relatively slow in the United Kingdom. There are common features to most services, such as the need for clients to open a linked bank account to pay for their purchases. Security has become less of a worry, and orders are not accepted unless the account holds sufficient funds.
