Exit the loonie?
Article Abstract:
A prominent Canadian economist has recommended that Canada return to a fixed exchange rate based on the American dollar rather than maintain a floating Canadian dollar. However, he believes that if this cannot be done, the creation of a North American monetary union would still be more viable than the current monetary policy which the federal government endorses. The expert argued that Canada is far too dependent on north-south trade to be able to keep its dollar floating.
