Fiscal 2006 Navy shipbuilding pace would yield a 120-vessel fleet
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Navy plan of building four new ships in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2006, if continued on a sustained basis for decades, would slash the current Navy fleet of 297 ships and submarines to just 120 vessels. However, the Navy shipbuilding plan is not considered to be optimistic due to failure on several grounds, which include its delays in funding construction of CVN 21, and delay of planned increase in submarine construction to two per year.
