Fitness guru's plans to muscle in on the health trade
Article Abstract:
Huw Watson is not only a fitness guru who promotes health and fitness to other people but also a smart businessman who plans to expand his health club company in the UK into a national operation. As of 1995, Viva! has opened only one fitness center in Bristol and is set to launch new ones in Cardiff and Manchester later in the year. Eventually, Watson plans to open facilities in Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Salisbury. He says he can achieve this goal because there is a huge pent-up demand for health clubs in the UK at the moment. Given his experience as an accountant, Watson is careful to run Viva! just as he would a normal company and he is using his accounting background to do just that. He believes that the success of Viva! lies in proper site location, focus on core competencies, tight internal control, vision and quality service.

The Main man finds his Forte
Article Abstract:
Forte PLC is a blue-chip business group that holds a dominant position in the UK hotel, restaurant and contract catering sectors. Forte enjoyed steady growth throughout the 1980s but has been experiencing falling profits since the onset of the recession in 1991. Forecasts for 1992 indicate that it may register its worst results in over a decade, with profits expected to fall once more. Forte Finance Dir Donald Main is, however, optimistic that the group shall rebound in 1993 and in succeeding years. Main believes that the group's new branding strategy will help it remain competitive in the hotel industry, its core business. Main also expects strong expansion in its profitable contract catering and restaurant business operations.
