French AH sales up 4% by Sept

France has reported a 4.1% increase in the sale of animal health products over the first nine months of 2001. This report, released by the country's joint manufacturers' and distributors' association (Association Interprofessionnelle d'Etude du Medicament Veterinaire), points to the pet industry as the main reason for the increase. This sector grew by 9.2% over the period. Livestock product sales, however, are not thriving as well and declined 5.9%. This sector represents 60% of sales.

Aust market thriving, NZ shaky

The year 2001 saw a host of new animal health products launched in Australia. According to the Baron Strategic Services' continuing audit, the country's market rose by approximately 4.5% to $293.2 million in the year to September 1, 2001. However, in New Zealand, the market is not faring as well. Bovine tuberculosis is an ongoing problem, with the Ministry investing significantly to develop preventative measures against the disease.

Novartis AH's 9-month fall

Novartis Animal Health's (Basel, Switzerland) sales for the first 9 months of 2001 fell 6% to Swiss Francs 715 million versus same-period 2000. The drop was attributed to the UK foot and mouth disease epidemic and the US economic slowdown. Article describes sales of various products and the financial picture of Novartis Group as a whole.
