Riceman Insurance was set up by Riceman, an insurance broker, in 1995 to deal in insurance in countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States. Riceman Insurance is listed on the UK Alternative Investment Market and has set up joint ventures in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. A joint venture could be set up in Georgia and the company could also expand into the Baltic states. The company forecasts a rise in earnings for 1997. There are risks involved in this market but the shares have interest as a speculative investment.

Euclidian was set up in 1994 to invest in syndicates linked to Lloyd's of London. Eucludian can underwrite capacity five times the company's stockholder funds due to a scheme set up with Centre Re, a subsidary of Zurich Insurance. Euclidian is cutting back on exposure to syndicates with outside managing agents, and is setting up its own managing agent. Euclidian is seeking to provide capital growth and the company's stocks also offer attractive yields.
