Article Abstract:
PricewaterhouseCoopers CEO James Schiro and Ernst & Young International Chmn Philip Laskawy both believe that accounting firms have a role to play in the international harmonization of financial reporting. Schiro says that major accounting firms should provide leadership in the search for some commonality in international accounting. Laskawy contends that it is not the accounting firms that can make harmonization happen, but the regulatory and international accounting standard-setting bodies that formulate financial reporting standards. He believes that the role of accountancy firms is to become actively involved in helping these bodies realize the advantages of a single language for international financial reporting.
