GE's 'relational database' keeps lines open to all customers
Article Abstract:
General Electric Co.'s (GE) Business Information Center serves customers through its relational database. GE program managers search the database for answers to callers's questions. The database contains information on GE products, services, sales locations, distributors and other key contacts. The center adds information to the database when it receives questions on sales. It relays information on callers and the products or services they asked for, to headquarters. Company officials expect the center to exert strong influence on GE's future marketing and sales efforts.
