Getting the best deal you can
Article Abstract:
Investors often wish to reassess their financial planning at the start of the new year, and financial services companies launch advertising campaigns at this time to take advantage of the reassessments. Investors should initially ensure they have enough for their retirement and have life insurance to cover the needs of dependants. When these priorities have been attended to they should assess how much they have available to invest, how long they are prepared to commit funds, whether they seek capital growth or income, and risk levels they are prepared to accept.

Crest to hit small deals
Article Abstract:
The new Crest share trading system to be launched in summer 1996 will reduce the cost of settlement in general but costs will rise almost threefold for brokers carrying out small transactions involving share certificates. Sixty per cent of retail share transactions are worth under 4,000 pounds sterling, and deals above this amount will cost less with Crest. Small investors are thus likely to be affected, while institutions will benefit from the proposed charges.
