The intact bull
Article Abstract:
US equity prices are backed by economic fundamentals, according to Goldman Sachs. Strong corporate results, mild inflation, and a view that a recession is at some distance are helping support shares. The rise in the value of the US dollar has not had a major impact on most US companies. Many companies have hedged to avoid problems from currency changes, and many companies are involved in activities where relative prices have little impact, such as avionics and computer software.

New York volatility means a sweaty summer for London
Article Abstract:
The Dow Jones industrial index is reflecting volatility in US stock prices which is likely to continue and make investors in the United Kingdom nervous. There is a debate as to how significant this volatility is. HSBC's Robin Griffiths argues that no major policy initiative is likely to be allowed to hurt financial markets prior to the installation of a new US president. There are also differences of opinion on whether United Kingdom interest rates will be raised.
