Government's buying power remains strong
Article Abstract:
The government continues to be a major buyer of information technology (IT) products and services despite all the talk by politicians about reducing the budget and shrinking the government workforce. The federal government's annual IT expenditure is estimated at $23 billion to $35 billion, while state and local governments spend from $30 billion to $35 billion. Despite huge spending cuts, the military accounts for 65% to 75% of total government spending. Reduction of the government workforce will also make the government more reliant on IT. Systems integrators such as Electronic Data Systems Corp. will increase their share of government spending.
