H&K handles PR for Brunei's fallen prince

PR firm Hill and Knowlton is handling the public relations for Prince Jefri, the brother of Brunie Sultan Hassanal Bolkia. The Sultan, who is the Brunei Investment Agency Chmn, has been accused of squandering billions of the oil and gas revenues of the sultanate. He has filed a case against Prince Jefri for misuse of public money. Prince Jefri's troubles began in 1998 with the collapse of his Amedeo conglomerate. He owns the Plaza Athenee in Paris, France, New York Palace in New York, Dorchester Hotel in London, UK and the Bel-Air in Los Angeles, CA.

BSMG rules roost (barely) in Chicago

BSMG Worldwide has maintained its lead spot in a ranking of PR firms in Chicago, IL. It posted a 16.4% gain in fee income to $34,811,442, edging Edelman PR Worldwide which increased by 17.8% to $34,687,070. Edelman's PR21 unit was rated as the fastest growing company in Chicago, with a 121.9% gain to $3,281,490, earning the number 20 spot in the ranking. BSMG Vice Chmn Barbara Molotsky attributes her firm's success to growth in its core consumer products and healthcare units.

Big NYC firms post double-digit growth

Public relations firms in New York had a successful 1999 as 14 out of the top 20 firms posted double-digit gains in fee income. Burson-Marsteller was on top with 65,690,000 in fee income, followed by Ruder Finn which posted 45,994,000 and a 14% gain over 1998 figures. It beat Edelman PR Worldwide which posted $45,230,508 and a 12% increase. Middleberg and Assocs posted a 119% increase to 11,390,018 while Chandler Chicco Agency posted an increase of 34% to $11,675,981.
