Hay and Robertson is becoming an expanding merchandising concern from its initial base as a textile concern. The company has acquired rights to use logos such as Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny on children's clothes, in addition to rights from football clubs to use their colors for children's pyjamas. The company also has rights to sell shirts and jackets with pop star logos, and new deals are likely. The company's profit could be some 0.5 million pounds sterling for the 12 months to Sep 1996, rising to 1 million pounds for the following year.

Hay and Robertson's leisurewear and hats using the Kangol brand name represent 70%of the profits of the group. Sales are strong, and the group aims to expand into mainland Europe. Hay has a licensing agreement whereby Outdoor and Sports Co is to make branded technical performance garments, and Mountain Equipment, a Hay and Robertson acquisition, will receive royalties. The group also has an agreement with Manchester United and will produce clothing for the soccer club.
