Hedge funds under increasing scrutiny
Article Abstract:
Hedge funds, which form an increasing percentage of mutual and pension fund investment, have come under strict supervision due to number of cases of abuse that are reported to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). SEC proposed the new regulations Rule 203(b)(3)-2 to register hedge fund advisers and also required the appointment of a compliance officer in implementing fraud controls of the hedge funds in order to protect less prudent investors. The varied responses of the Investment Company Institute and CarbonBased Consulting in New York on the SEC Rule are presented.
