Virginia's high-tech chip dreams take PR hit
Article Abstract:
Motorola's decision to shelve its plans for a $3 billion semiconductor plant near Richmond, VA, is a major blow to the state's effort to become a high-tech mecca. The company blamed the worst downturn in the history of the semiconductor industry for the postponement of what would have been the company's single biggest capital investment. A company official, nonetheless, said the company will definitely proceed with the project, although the timing is still uncertain.
