Hiring, retaining staffers is art in fast-paced high-tech PR

High-tech public relations (PR) companies are faced with the most challenging issue of finding and retaining talented people. This appears to be a problem for PR firms in light of growing demand for skilled employees. But PR firms can address such concerns by providing a solid human resource teams and programs geared towards meeting the needs of their employees. Other steps would include the offering of flexible work schedules, studying employee turnover and aiding employees to reach their career goals.

AMF staffers follow Frank to new firm

Joele Frank, former Vice Chmn of AMF, renamed Abernathy MacGregor Group, has established her own public relations firm called J. Frank Assocs in Jan 2000. She was joined by several of Abernathy's clients, which are rumored to be worth $7 million in fees, and 11 former employees. Some of Frank's staffers, which total 17, are believed to have the most extensive experience in handling unsolicited acquisition proposals and tender offers, proxy contests and friendly acquisitions.

Edelman, up 18%, is top independent firm
Article Abstract:
Edelman PR Worldwide has climbed to the number one spot in a ranking of PR firms with major US operations based on worldwide fees. It posted an 18% increase to $186 million. Ranked in the second slot is Ruder Finn which posted a 16% increase to $59.4 million. In third place was Waggener Edstrom which grew by 23.6% to $50.5 million in fees. Morgen-Walke Assocs dropped out of the top ten due to mergers.
