Holiday RV opens recreation USA store

Holiday RV Superstores Inc, based in Orlando, FL, has used its Recreation USA trademark in introducing its first theme store in Spartanburg, SC, to establish a recreational vehicle and marine dealership national brand. The new 31,000-sq-ft store, which will serve as model for other dealerships, includes an ATM machine, onsite Internet access and a full-line service center. The store's showroom features a full line of motorhomes, towable RVs, pleasure boats, pontoons and a parts store.

First RadioShack.com store opens

Tandy Corp is opening its first Web store, RadioShack.com, in Aurora, CO, to test a new e-commerce retailing strategy. The 20,000-sq-ft store sells the same 22,000 items available on the Web site, 'six times the number found in the average RadioShack store.' According to Lou Provost, Senior VP RadioShack Store Operations, the RadioShack.com store, which is almost a mirror image of the firm's radioshack.com Web site, is an extension of their e-commerce effort.

72-cube video wall featured at Discovery store

Discovery Channel new store at the Sony Metreon in San Franciso, CA, features a 72-cube video wall in a multi-media playground that brings animals and science to buyers that is designed to enhance shopping experience. Suspended almost 9 ft from the ground, the video system comprises 72 Sony 50-inch cubes in a 2 by 36 configuration. The system shows animation, MPEG2 encoded archived Discovery Channel programming and other tidbits to entertain shoppers.
