How market oriented are business studies degrees?
Article Abstract:
Business study degrees do not always suit the needs of subsequent work activities in business and management. Business studies graduates were interviewed to assess the benefits and disadvantages of the degree course. Interviewees stated that the amount of psychology, sociology and behavioural sciences aspects of their course were not required for their work environment. Industry placements were viewed as being a highly relevant and powerful way to prepare the student for work. Many graduates eventually work on a permanent basis for their placement employer.

Internal allocation of funds: changes and challenges for Australian universities
Article Abstract:
Australian universities are using the Relative Funding Model (RFM) which is similar to that utilized by the Commonwealth Government despite warnings that RFM is not suitable for institutions. The reasons include the administrators' belief that the government will continue to use the major components of RFM, senior administrators' willingness to use a cost matrix developed at the system level and the need to eradicate the annual squabbles on equitable budget share.
