How to pay for your dream home: With mortgage rates extremely low - and more cuts expected - an increasing number of people are looking to buy a new home
Article Abstract:
The mortgage market in London and the South East is currently busy and the rest of the country is expected to follow suit, helped by four Bank of England base-rate cuts over the past five months. This has resulted in significant changes to mortgages, and more borrowers moving towards discounted variable rates, away from fixed rates. Base rates are expected to fall further, but banks and building societies could stop following these cuts in the hope of keeping their savers.

Has the attack on endowments gone too far?: endowment mortgages have been slated in the press and some institutions have even stopped selling these policies. But are they really that bad and are the alternatives any better?
Article Abstract:
The image of endowment mortgages has been damaged following a report by the Office of Fair Trading that found that many policies had hidden commission and administration charges. Some banks and building socieites had also promoted endowments to maximise their commission without considering the interest of the homeowner. However repayment mortages can prove costly particularly if homeowners move house every five years..
