Independence day
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom law firms are becoming increasingly involved in financial planning and thisis shown by the increase funds under management by the Association of Solicitor Investment Managers and the increase in the association's membership. There are high levels of security due to the Solicitors' Compensation Fund, the Solicitirs' Investment Business Rules, unlimited personal liability and the ability of the Law Society to intervene. Solicitors often already handle large sums such as those in a trust, so are well placed to manage investments.

Managers on parade
Article Abstract:
There are a number of questions that investors can ask when selecting a portfolio manager. They can assess whether the manager emphasizes active management, and whether decisions are made by sector or simply by stock selection. The investment philosphy of the manager may be important, and decisions may be taken using a house view. Charges and performance benchmarks should be taken into account, and the extent of personal contact may be a key issue.
