I'm all right, Jack
Article Abstract:
Employee stock ownership can benefit employees and investors in companies which run such schemes. The UK Employee Share Ownership Index provides data on the performance of United Kingdom companies which have large employee stock holdings. There are a little over 30 companies in the index, but it has performed better than the All-Share index for the six years to 1998. There are reasons for such a performance such as a culture that is more open. Employee stock ownership does not guarantee that a company will perform well, but it does appear to help boost profits.

Ways to cash in on the next best thing
Article Abstract:
Large companies' stock prices have performed better than stocks in medium firms in the United Kingdom, but this could change. The stocks of large firms have rise to high price levels and medium firms can offer good value. A drop in interest rates and the value of pound sterling in 1998 would also benefit medium firms. There are still risks, since a soft euro would push up the value of pound sterling, and a drop in demand from Asia could also hit medium firms.
