Imperial Tobacco
Article Abstract:
Imperial Tobacco has announced the acquisition of Douwe Egberts' tobacco business, and Imperial's dividend yield is also forecast to rise. Both these factors make the company's stocks more attractive. Imperial holds a 58% stake in the United Kingdom hand rolling tobacco market, while Douwe holds a 27% stake in the world market and a 60% stake in the Dutch market. The UK market is heavily taxed and declining, and the acquisition reduces Imperial's dependence on the UK as well as offering cost savings in purchasing tobacco and other benefits from combining the brands.

Imperial Tobacco
Article Abstract:
Imperial Tobacco has seen a drop in its stock prices as a result of concern about tobacco smuggling into the United Kingdom, bans on advertising the industry's products, and threats of litigation affecting the sector. Imperial Tobacco does not have operations in the US, where there is the most serious threat of litigation. The company has a strong position in the budget brand market, so is benefiting from a move toward cheaper cigarettes. Imperial Tobacco is also expanding abroad.
