Improving the quality service to members
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) developed a marketing strategy that would promote ICAS to both member and non-member accountants. The plan concluded three years of research and was approved on Jul 31, 1992. As a result of the plan, ICAS' activities were divided into three core activites: technical, professional regulation and discipline and education; and three supporting areas: administration and management, member care and new revenue centers. Accountants can avail of services through the newly-created Member Care department of ICAS. The marketing plan calls for members to invest in the organization's activities and presents guidelines for managing financial and organizational operations.

Business legislation unit
Article Abstract:
The Business Legislation Unit (BLU) advises the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland's Council on UK or EC legislation and other regulations which may affect the Institute. The BLU intends to establish an environment receptive to business through its influence on commercial law development. However, it deals only with general business law and leaves particular issues to the discretion of the Institute. BLU members are selected from industry, banking, legal practice, large and small firms so that a broad range of issues which need varied skills may be resolved.
