Is economy poised for a 'big boom?' (includes survey on marketing and sales executives)

Ninety-six percent of marketing executives surveyed by 'Business Marketing' think that their companies would have better sales in the next 12 months. This is an indication that the US economy is going towards a 'big boom.' The marketing executives surveyed worked at companies with big advertising expenditures. Forty-seven percent of the executives surveyed predict that their companies' budgets for advertising would increase by 1993 and their marketing budgets would increase by an average of 20%. One-third of the executives plan to increase their print advertising budgets.

A survey on marketing executives show that eleven work for companies with annual revenues of $9 billion or more. Another twenty-nine, work for companies with annual revenues of $1 billion or more. The median age for those working in high-tech industries is 35 years old and 42 years old for other industries. Thirty-eight percent have a master's degree and males constitute 2/3 of the executives surveyed. Ninety-six percent use a computer daily. Executives at computer companies put 40% of their time in front of the computer against 17.5% in non-computer companies.

One hundred marketing executives surveyed anticipate that their customers will acquire new equipment for their restructured organizations. These equipment are in communications, computers and office automation. Purchasing managers surveyed also foresee increased orders and will increase the lead time for the acquisition of raw materials. Fifty-seven percent of consumers surveyed predict that their finances will improve by 1993. However, the job uncertainty which is greatest in 14 years limits their purchasing capacity.
