This Year's Best Deductible Adventures
Article Abstract:
Vacations which combine work with play can often be tax deductible. By volunteering to assist in service projects sponsored by non-profitable organizations, travelors can deduct almost all their expenses, including travel and accommodations, as charitable contributions. There are organizations which either sponsor these trips or act as clearinghouses which list what is available. Some of the more interesting trips are listed, and involve such activities as searching for underground Roman ruins in Israel, to excavating an 18th century settlement in Maryland, to recording wall paintings and artifacts found in Easter Island, South America. In addition there are trips which are sponsored by organizations in which no work is done but donations or fees are tax deductible. Participants on these trips do it not so much for the tax deduction as for the experience that is gained through these trips.

Bargains in Estate Jewelry
Article Abstract:
Buying used jewelry can often provide a real bargain for the buyer. Called estate jewelry (never used or second hand), these pieces can be centuries old, or relatively new, and can be purchased from private jewelers, auctions, estate sales or department stores. While there are some pieces that are true collectibles and which will increase in value, the value of most of the jewelry will be determined by present demand and market conditions, and should be purchased not as an investment, but because the buyer really likes the piece.
