Key success factors: test of a general theory in the mature industrial-product sector
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis is tested that differing industries have different success factors, and that companies that have those success factors will be successful. Strong prediction of key success factors in different environments is provided by a typology of mature industrial-product industries which have been organized according to their transaction complexity and core technology. Expert panels from six industries supplied their ratings of key success factors in their industries. Their success factors corresponded well to the hypothesis. Another set of expert panels verified that a firm's profitability is dependent on it having particular industry-specific success factors.

Interpreting and responding to strategic issues: the impact of national culture
Article Abstract:
National culture affects crisis and threat interpretations and responses to strategic issues, with interpretations and responses differing by country. An understanding of these differences can provide a competitive advantage for firms confronted with international competitors and for those working with international alliances in the global marketplace. A study has revealed that Latin European managers are more likely to interpret an issue concerning the deregulation of US banking as a crisis and a threat, and they respond with proactive behavior.
