Learning the lessons of investment history
Article Abstract:
Efficient market theory argues that stock prices reflect information on stocks, yet there are price fluctuations which cannot be explained by such a theory. Historical trends are apparent such as poor performances in the third week of May each year in bear markets. Sep 26 is a bad trading day for UK stocks, but stock prices rose in 1997 after an announcement that the government planned to join European monetary union. These trends also change once investors become aware of them.
