Level of automation effects on performance, situation awareness and workload in a dynamic control task
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the influence of different levels of automation (LOA) designating the degree of human operator and computer control as a way of enhancing human-centered automation. Multitask, a computer-based dynamic control task, was developed to present multiple tasks to an operator in the form of geometric abstractions. A sample of 30 undergraduate students participated in the study. Results indicate that LOAs have a substantial impact on automated system performance.

Evolvable work-centered support systems for command and control: Creating system users can adapt to meet changing demands
Article Abstract:
Experiences in developing a work-centered support system (WCSS) to aid weather forecasting and monitoring in a military airlift command and control (C2) organization are described. The observed constant changes that operations personnel faced are discussed, the need to incorporate facilities that enable users to adapt their systems to the changing requirements of work is suggested, and evolvable work-centered support systems are proposed.

Collaborative planning and situation awareness in Army command and control
Article Abstract:
A theoretical investigation of a complex command and control (C2) operation, the manoeuvres planning processes in Army land-battle situations, is conducted and several critical human factors associated with planning in a rapidly evolving environment are described. The implications for the application of the findings to other C2 domains are discussed.
