Made to measure?
Article Abstract:
Investors seeking to buy pensions and unit trust products online are hampered by regulations in the United Kingdom. Pension product providers are concerned about offering their products online for regulatory reasons. Unit trust providers also seem reluctant to offer products online, though the regulatory issues should not be such a concern. Three sites offer performance data for funds, and they are Scottish Amicable, Equitable Life and CIS. Flemings, Save and Prosper, and Fidelity all offer sites that are easy to use and which provide good information.

Establishing an investment strategy: depending on how much you can afford to invest and how experienced you are, direct involvement in the stock market may or may not be a suitable strategy. But for small or novice investors, there are other routes into equities
Article Abstract:
An investment strategy depends on how much is to be invested and what levels of risk could be contemplated. All investments carry a degree of risk, and usually the higher the return, the greater risk involved. Brokers are not interested in really small investors so those with a few hundred or a few thousand to invest should consider purchasing units in a unit trust or shares in a investment trust. In both cases a pool of money is managed on behalf of investors and some offer monthly savings schemes.

Emerging markets
Article Abstract:
Some UK investment trusts can give access to emerging markets and there are some 12 emerging market funds with a global focus in addition to specialist funds. Performance can vary and it is not always easy to find comparable data. Efficient settlement and ensuring title to securities is good are two challenges for trust managers involved in emerging markets. Russia presents problems of poor settlement though there has been an improvement in this area elsewhere in eastern Europe.
