Managing stress
Article Abstract:
One-third of the directors of UK corporations die before receiving the first payout from their pensions, and stress is a great cause of their untimely demise. It is estimated that 75% of all work loss is rooted in stress. Stress reduction is important in order to maximize the productivity of managers and the workforce. UK corporations can take advantage of Time Manager International's Stress Manager Course. The course teaches managers how to manage and reduce stress by learning how to identify stress and how to relax in order to minimize the body's stress response. Managers are taught to minimize the stress response through breathing exercises, and are taught stress tolerance strategies, including taking annual and daily holidays, exercising, and reducing worry.

Appropriateness of international heat stress standards for use in tropical agricultural environments
Article Abstract:
The heat stress indices developed to forecast the physiological strain on a person from stressful environmental conditions are presumed to be applicable to any hot environment. However, they have been designed for, and are mainly used in, industrial environments in industrialized countries. Little attention has been given to whether they are suitable for agricultural environments in which outdoor workers must endure tropical climates. The standards assume that workers are in good health, but this is not always the case in industrially developing countries. It is clear that revisions in the standards' calculations are needed.

Managing vertebrates in cover crops: A first study
Article Abstract:
Wildlife are attracted to farms that are planted with cover crops in California's agricultural lands. Pocket gophers abound in these environments and attract other animal species which are mostly beneficial to commercial crops. Voles can coexist with commercial crops if tree and vine rows are kept bare. Cover crops protect commercial crops while attracting small mammals. They also connect remnant habitat patches on agricultural lands. Cover crops are beneficial because they attract predatory vertebrates that might keep animal damage to farms at low levels.
