Manufacturing a new range of axial flow fans
Article Abstract:
UK-based engineering company Woods of Colchester Ltd., a subsidiary of General Electric Company PLC, makes a wide range of air movement equipment, including axial flow fans. Over half of its products are exported. The increasingly competitive marketplace and environmental concerns have prompted Woods to improve its manufacturing and management efficiency in order to produce lower-cost, environmentally-friendly products, particularly its JM Aerofoil fan. By implementing improved manufacturing and management techniques, time to market has fallen and profitability has improved.

Restructuring the manufacturing process of modern warships
Article Abstract:
GEC Marine is a leading maker of warships and comprises Vickers Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd., Yarrow Shipbuilders Ltd. (YSL) and National Nuclear Corp. YSL has long been a successful maker of ships for the Royal Navy and others, but a reduction in UK orders means that it has had to increase efficiency and reduce costs in order to remain competitive abroad. To achieve this, the company developed an integrated design and build process using modular construction techniques to accelerate and optimize the manufacturing process.
