Maverick Goldsmith takes his leave
Article Abstract:
James Goldsmith was an entrepreneur who was involved in complex and daring business deals such as the acquisition of 49% of Cavenham. This deal allowed him to transfer assets to Generale Occidentale and away from the UK. He also planned a leveraged bid to acquire BAT Industries and sold Cavenham stocks to acquire Wrights and Moores, a retailer with assets that could be realized. The sale of these helped finance Goldsmith's acquisition of Bovril against competition from Rowntree Mackintosh.
