Medisys's US expansion

Medisys carried out a reverse takeover of NIC, a needle incinerator company, in 1997, and the market has great potential for growth. Medisys was previously called Biocure. The company is focusing on products for disposing of needles, and a glucose monitoring system for diabetics. Medisys also aims to demerge Biocure. The company's needle disposal system has been approved by the US FDA, and US infrastructure will come from the acquisition of Lukens Medical Corp.

Smiths Industries

Smiths Industries was hit by a strike at Beoing costing Smiths around 1 million pounds sterling. The company reported a rise in profit of 12% for 1995 to 1996. Smiths has been awarded work for the Airbus but this will not appear in results until 1998. Medical products accounted for 43% of Smiths' profit for 1995 to 1996. The company has funds for expansion of its connectors activities and aims to acquire parts of Thomson which is to be privatized.
