Military-to-military contacts between the United States and China were nearly derailed over the controversy surrounding the downing of the U.S. Navy EP-3E surveillance aircraft. Industry analysts said that the need for military-to-military contacts were demonstrated by subsequent negotiations over the EP-3E.

Article Abstract:
The United States Navy has previously developed vertical/short take-off and landing fighters, but never put an aircraft into use. The Navy should reevaluate its attitude toward these planes due to the success of the Marine Corps' Harrier and Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
