Examining the wrapper
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom government included life insurance in its individual savings accounts (Isas), and investment bonds are seen as especially appropriate for Isas. There are problems, however due to the low limit to contributions that can be made annually, the 1,000 pounds sterling limit is inadequate since contributions to bonds tend tobe from 15,000 to 20,000 on average. Isas have a duration of 10 years and this means that there are problems for providers of 25-year endowments.

Ways to cope with do-it-yourself taxation
Article Abstract:
The UK tax system is moving to self-assessment and this affects all tax payers though not all will be asked to complete self-assessment forms relating to the 1996 to 1997 fiscal year. There are around 8.5 million individuals involved in self-assessment and this figure is likely to grow as earnings increase and as more people become self-employed. There are penalties imposed if taxpayers cannot provide information on their tax affairs, or do not wish to do so.
