Motor distributors: growth opportunity
Article Abstract:
Fiat plans a number of new motor concessions which could allow UK automobile dealers such as Appleyard and Pendragon to expand. Fiat is seeking larger dealers and fewer of them. Pendragon has taken on two new franchises. Fiat aims to carry out its reorganization prior to the implementation of European Union regulations which would mean that longer notice periods would be needed before a franchise is withdrawn. Other companies are consolidating their UK dealer networks.

New car sales stall
Article Abstract:
UK new car sales totalled 1.93 million vehicles in 1994, while predictions had been for sales of over 2 million vehicles. Sales to individual buyers have performed poorly compared with dales to fleet buyers. Margins of car dealers have been affected by this trend, and dealers are seeking to make more money from servicing vehicles. They should also benefit from a rise in the price of used vehicles. The sector is likely to undergo rationalization with mergers.

Hold on for a happy 'N.'(UK car sales in Aug 1995)
Article Abstract:
UK car sales are higher in Aug each year when the registration letter changes. Companies will be permitted to reclaim value added tax for vehicles in fleets and this should help boost sales in Aug 1995. Advance orders for Aug 1995 are higher than for Aug 1994, according to Ryland, a car dealer. Sales for the month are forecast at 470,000 vehicles compared with 452,000 vehicles in Aug 1994, with total sales for 1995 forecast at 1.9 million vehicles.
