Mullen says $2 billion Virginia class price a must for two-subs goal
Article Abstract:
The US chief of naval operations Adm. Michael Mullen has stated that General Dynamics Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. should cut the total price of each boat to $2 billion or less if they want Navy to start buying two submarines a year. Navy would try to help the submarine builders move towards cost reduction and out of the $2.4 billion to $2.7 billion present total cost of each boat, about $1 billion is in government-supplied items such as nuclear reactors.
