To grow or not to grow
Article Abstract:
Private company growth through acquisitions should be undertaken as part of an organic growth strategy. When evaluating potential acquisitions, the company should focus issues such as whether: the acquisition meshes with long-term strategy; whether desired growth can be realized within the parameters of the organization; and whether there are alternate ways to increase market share. Companies making acquisitions with venture capital must determine the right mixture of equity capital and long-term capital and should structure equity participation by venture capitalists so as not to lose control over the company.
