National Grid: green light for autumn
Article Abstract:
The National Grid Company (NGC) is scheduled to be floated in fall 1995. The company is owned by the 12 UK electric utilities and a flotation was planned for summer 1995 but was postponed due to an announcement of a review of price controls for the sector. NGC holds a monopoly in the UK market and transmission charges are regulated. Large cash inflows have allowed the company to repay debt, though more debt is likely to be injected prior to the float to pay customer rebates and capital gains tax.

Experts in grid-lock
Article Abstract:
National Grid shares have not performed wellsince they were launched on the stock market in Dec 1995. Stockbrokers vary in their opinions about the likely performance of the shares. Yamaichi rates the shares a sell, and a regulatory review gives cause for concern, as does Energis, the company's telecoms network. Panmure Gordon rates the shares a buy, and does not see National Grid as likely to be subject to a windfall tax. UBS also rates the shares a buy, and foresees dividends growth.

National Grid: stellar or solid?
Article Abstract:
National Grid owns and runs the Welsh and English electricity transmission network, and the company is to be launched on the stock market on Dec 11 1995. Six UK electric utilities will be giving National Grid shares to their shareholders. The other six utilities have been acquired by predators. No new funds will be put into National Grid by the utilities, which will be taking funds in the form of special dividends to help pay for a rebate to domestic consumers.
