Article Abstract:
Avondale Industries, Inc., New Orleans, La., is being awarded a $9,712,000 modification to previously awarded contract N00024-97-C-2202 for research, development, test and evaluation of new technologies potentially applicable to the LPD 17 class ship. This modification will cover the exploration of various emerging innovative production processes, shipboard automation techniques, and system design concepts with emphasis on reducing maintenance, manning, and radar cross section and improving structural design concepts, electronics integration and habitability. Work will be performed in Bath, Maine (38%), San Diego, Calif. (32%), and New Orleans, La. (30%), and is expected to be completed in July 1999. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Arlington, Va., is the contracting activity.

Armstrong Data Services, Inc., Brea, Calif., is being awarded a $14,996,355 cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for landing craft air cushion (LCAC) support as well as various amphibious warfare, expeditionary warfare and special warfare programs. Work will be performed primarily in Vienna, Va. (50%), and Panama City, Fla. (50%), and is expected to be completed by July 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured with 52 proposals solicited and two offers received. The Coastal Systems Station, Dahlgren Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City, Fla., is the contracting activity (N61331-98-D-0033).
