Navy buys $223 million Littoral Combat Ship from General Dynamics/Austal
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has ordered a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) from General Dynamics Corp. (GD) division in Bath Iron Works, which would be the first of two planned 'Flight 0' versions of the ship to be bought from GD. Austal, an Australian shipbuilder, would construct the futuristic triple aluminum hulled ship in its yard in Mobile, Alaska, and it stands to reap about half the $233 million contract amount.

Etter sees promise in multi-year ship funding
Article Abstract:
The assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition , Delores Etter, foresees future in the purchase of ships with multi-year contracts. Delores Etter believes that a ship with a multi year procurement contracts would give stability in the ship building yards and would offer a continuous and steady flow of work.
