Article Abstract:
Scottish Enterprise is preparing for the challenges of the Single European market by establishing a representative center in Brussels through which Scottish companies and community interests could become more actively involved with the European Commission's economic integration initiatives. The center shall be run by Scottish Europa, a subsidiary of Scottish Enterprise specifically formed to help it promote Scottish interests in Europe. Grant Baird, former chief economist of the Royal Bank of Scotland, has been retained as Scottish Europa's first chief executive. Baird has been given the mandate to transform the center into an organizational locus through which Scottish concerns could actively promote their European interests.

Article Abstract:
Companies in Scotland do not need to develop special marketing strategies for the Single European Market in 1992. The benefits of the Single Market have been exaggerated, and Scottish companies should not rely on the Single Market to create demand. Developing targeted marketing strategies and creating customer loyalty will be more effective in creating demand and becoming successful.
