Northrop, Raytheon report good profits, but Lockheed comes out ahead

The second quarter's earnings in 2005 for major defense contractors showed Lockheed Martin Corp. at the top of the heap for profitability growth while Northrop Grumman Corp. and Raytheon Co. reported solid profits. Lockheed Martins' profit soared 55.7 percent, Northrop's profit rose 22.8 percent and Raytheon Corp. swung from a second-quarter loss in 2004, to a profit for the quarter in 2005, and also raised its profits outlook for all of 2005.

Halliburton aces profit growth; Northrop second, Raytheon third

Halliburton Corp. has reported by far the greatest gain in profits, 382.9 percent increase, among major defense contractors in the first part of 2005. Northrop Grumman Corp. stood second with 76.1 percent and Raytheon Co. stood third with 29.7 percent, whereas Boeing Co. was the only top-seven contractor to see the profits slump.
