Not ready for the year 2000 - and not alone
Article Abstract:
A survey of small and mid-sized companies conducted by Barclays Merchant Services reveals majority of them are still unprepared for the Year 2000 computer problem. More than two-thirds of those surveyed have yet to make preparations, while only 4% have finished implementing the necessary changes. Twenty one percent are considering making such changes. There are many sources of assistance for those companies making preparations for the millennium problem. These include the UK Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency's six-volume document 'Tackling the Year 2000,' the Century Date Change IT Database created by the Electronics an Information Industries Forum and Taskforce 2000, and a free benchmarking service offered by Softlab.

Are you ready to die?
Article Abstract:
Guidelines for drawing up a will are discussed. The document should first appoint executors who will obtain probate of the will. The executors' work ends with the distribution of the will, unless there is an ongoing trust or minor beneficiaries. Legacies of cash and gifts should be included if there is any chance of a family argument. The possibility of change in the size or composition of the estate between the time the will is drawn up and the death of the writer of the will should be accounted, and is a good reason to give the executors as much administrative power as possible.
