Not so crazy about football shares
Article Abstract:
There are a number of factors that may depress the stock prices of United Kingdom soccer clubs. They include inflation of players' wages, and spending on stadiums. A number of soccer clubs are planning stock market flotations and this should strengthen the sector since many of the clubs are quality names. The ability of individual clubs to win matches is one factor affecting their stock prices. Progress is also needed on pay-per-view television.

Manchester United tops the financial league
Article Abstract:
Manchester United is a UK football club which is investing in increasing capacity and this should boost sales to some 40,000 pre-season tickets. The company's income from merchandising has risen to 23 million pounds annually from 2 million pounds following its flotation. Growth is unlikely to be as rapid but can still continue. Television payments also help the club. Manchester United shares are recommended to investors in Oct 1995.

A game of two halves
Article Abstract:
Half of UK football clubs lost money in 1993-94 according to a new analysis of club profitability by Touche Ross, accountants. However there is a small group of wealthy, powerful and successful clubs at the top of the league, while other teams have to sell players to meet their rising wages bills. Almost two thirds of turnover was generated by Premier league clubs, with Manchester United at the top of the financial league.
