Now for some good news at British Gas
Article Abstract:
British Gas announced that it would demerge into two companies in May 1996. The companies are TransCo dealing with pipeline activities and British Gas Energy dealing with gas supply. The Office of Gas Supply (Ofgas) proposes a price review that could have a major impact on the dividend of TransCo. The extent to which the dividend is affected depends on how lenient Ofgas is. A harsh policy may lead the company to seek a ruling from the Monopolies and Mergers Commission. Meanwhile a rise in spot prices for gas should help british Gas Energy.

Workaholic who hit the headlines
Article Abstract:
Cedric Brown is chief executive at British Gas and has been criticised for a pay rise to 475,000 pounds sterling in 1994. He argues that criticisms of his salary are linked to a climate of envy, and that high salaries are needed to attract able people to top posts. He accepts that job losses at British Gas have undermined morale, and uncertainty over jobs has led to disclosures to the press about the company's affairs. This is likely to continue until the uncertainty ends.
